Welsh Government introduce updated Food Hygiene Law.

As of the 28th November 2013, a new law has been introduced by the Welsh Government. This law requires all businesses that serve or sell food to display their food hygiene rating at every entrance and in prominent positions such as front windows.

Amongst those businesses which are affected, are:

  • Restaurants
  • Takeaways
  • Mobile caterers
  • Cafes
  • Hotels
  • Pubs
  • Supermarkets
  • Bakeries
  • Delicatessens
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Children’s nurseries
  • Residential care homes

Food outlets will be 0-5 rated on a variety of criteria which includes how the food is prepared, cooked and stored, as well as being rated on the condition of the premises and how well food safety is managed within the business.

This statutory scheme will be enforced by Local Authority Officers, who will ensure that ratings are displayed correctly. Food ratings will also continue being displayed on the FSA website.
