The commercial cleaning sector has become more and more competitive in recent years, as people learn about the benefits of lean solutions and outsourcing non-core operations. The demand for commercial cleaning services has also increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic, with businesses seeing the benefits of better hygiene, higher cleaning standards and professionalism. Â
At CSA Cleaning we have seen developing trends this year across all commercial sectors, such as education, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, warehousing and healthcare. In 2025 we expect AI and VR to play a bigger role in training practices and performance monitoring, while robotic cleaning equipment and other smart solutions will start to help make commercial cleaning more efficient and innovative, but for now here are some of the commercial cleaning trends we saw in 2024. Â
Employee Care
There is now a greater emphasis on individual employee wellbeing, and therefore dedicated attention to workspaces. Employers are increasingly seeing the value in attending to the varying individual needs of employees in terms of how they want their workstations prepared and looked after. This is built into daily cleaning programmes and enables employees to excel, morale to thrive and business productivity to improve. Â
Specialist services
Many commercial cleaning companies are seeing the value in expanding their services to include non-routine cleaning disciplines. CSA Cleaning saw this opportunity some time ago and developed a programme of specialisms which have enabled us to gain a competitive edge. Our specialist services – builders cleaning, gutters, cladding, window cleaning and high-level cleaning – can be incorporated into standard frequency cleaning programmes and are tailored to individual client needs. We have undertaken the dedicated training and accreditation for these expert tasks and have invested in key equipment and materials, so that you don’t need to, and have been able to offer these services within our core programmes to make them affordable and effective. Â
Sustainable policies
The emphasis on green practices is nothing new, but the speed with which different industry sectors are developing smart eco solutions is growing every year, and commercial cleaning has seen widespread innovation in 2024. Ethical practices for storage and disposal of cleaning chemicals are now commonplace, along with energy-efficient cleaning equipment, robust waste disposal and recycling policies, less single-use materials and more biodegradable materials. We are also finding that more and more businesses are targeting contractors with better green credentials and at CSA Cleaning we are seeing the competitive benefits of that. Â
Health-centric cleaning
While this remains a knock-on effect of the pandemic, issues such as hand hygiene have now been adopted as common practice. Therefore regular cleaning of high touch surfaces and the provision of hand hygiene materials is now standard, but we also now use hospital-grade disinfectants and carry out more regular deep cleans of many commercial businesses. This is all aimed at providing an environment with better air quality and hygiene standards, which in turn improves general employee health and wellbeing and reduces absenteeism. This is increasingly being linked to investment in air conditioning and other air quality systems, geared towards employee care, as mentioned above, but also in providing a health-focussed work environment. Â
Customised plans
In such a competitive commercial sector it is normal now for customers to be more demanding, and particularly with specialist services and non-standard practices. To remain competitive a commercial cleaning company has to be flexible and adaptable to incorporate specialist services with standard, core cleaning services. This may involve a combination of internal and external cleaning, which requires very different skills, equipment and personnel, but CSA Cleaning are a good example of how services can be customised to deliver a rounded package of dedicated cleaning disciplines. Most specialist services are not daily, or even weekly, but our expertise is in designing a robust solution where non-standard services are ingrained into a schedule that is effective and reliable, and is completely tailored towards an individual customer. Â
